Default Columbian DC-3 Airline

Found this through another video linked on here, not sure if its a repost, but a neat video on how airlines "work" down south. I think the part that got me was the pouring of fuel into the tanks from the bucket.

I spent a good 6 months in that very town, Villavicencio. Very interesting scene down there. Lots of DC-3s with the turboprop conversion, and also lots still with the radial engines. The Colombian Air Force operates some DC-3s converted into gunships (AC-47) and the National Police also have DC-3s and one broke apart while taxiing in Colombia because a policeman onboard mishandled a grenade. Also, the Bogota airport (SKAP, above 8000ft elevation) requires any DC-3s landing there to have the turboprop conversion.

Awesome. I can only imagine the experience. I would much rather fly DC-3s in to back country strips all year than push buttons in a jet, and just the atmosphere of being around them is sometimes enough. Flying history.

Yeah, sometimes it was kind of like stepping in a time machine, and I also saw 737-200s in Bogota and I even saw a 727 once, and this was only 4 years ago!

And I gave this Colombian Air Force crew member a ride in my truck and I asked him if he was flying an E model C-130, and he said "no, A model"

I think this is the plan of many aspiring aviators. My plan was to fly awesome stuff out of awesome places as well. Turns out that after a wife, a kid, a house and an established life that I find it much more lucrative to push buttons in a jet.

Another dream shattered.

If that's a bad storm, I don't think I could take a good day.

Not looking forward to the day where I feel the same way, though I'm sure its out there somewhere.

I hit both the lost dream and the dream attained. Aviation seems to do that often. I doubt I'll ever get to be a Bush pilot in Alaska, Australia, or Africa. Though I may have the opportunity to fly large cabin International in the future, my desires have changed and I'm not even sure if I want to anymore. Times change, that much is for sure
