Great shots!

Question about the Blues in the left echelon turn. Shouldn't Boss be looking straight ahead? Or was he flying "formation" on another aircraft or ground reference (tower)?

He is flying formation off the Photo Bird.(i.e. the one from where the picture was taken)

In general, most fighter pilots look in the direction of turn, not always as it is technique and "it depends". My guess, as these are Navy pilots - he is scanning the crowd for young boys.

He is looking outside for many reasons- probably in this case looking for references for show center for example.

Yeah - silly question now that I think about it. If you're turning, you ain't lookin straight out ahead, but what you're turning about (or to i.e. base to final).

I guess I was thinking of some of the other maneuvers - loops for example, where boss would be looking at 12 and the other guys in on the reference points.
