FL360 in the ERJ :)
Well, I should have brought my Tri-Pod with me, haha. It is very difficult to have a properly exposed sky and flightdeck so I had to revert to HDR and doing shots handheld did not turn out so well. These pictures are not very sharp. I plan on doing this again with some more stable methods

The SB-900 is Nikon's top of the line speed light, replacing the previous top SB-800.
The 900 can flash a full stop brighter than the 600, but it sucks juice faster and the flash doesn't recycle as quickly as the 600.
I have the SB-600 and I love it. It's Nikons mid-range model and costs less than half that of a 900. Your new D300s likely has a commander function so that you can trigger the flashes remotely and get some nice effects.
The 900 has a few more features, that in my opinion, aren't needed if photography is just a nice/semi-serious hobby. (I'm not planning on shooting any weddings anytime soon, for example).
I used the SB-600 in that photo of my cat high on nip in another thread. The flash was aimed vertically and bounced off a 12' ceiling and nicely illuminated kitty.
It fits perfectly in my camera bag (lowepro slingshot 200AW).
Long story short: GET IT! It costs about $200 and once you get it you'll wonder why hadn't bought one sooner.
