Well, using Jungle's explanation, I will give my theory. (complete with advanced diagrams)
If you notice, the less distorted part of the blade and shadow is the part that goes at a bottom left to top right angle (opposite of vertical scanning) so the image takes less time to scan because the scanning runs parallel, therefore gets distorted less, like so...
The more distorted part of the blade and shadow are at a top left to bottom right angle (same direction as vertical scanning) so in each scan, less of the blade is included, therefore taking longer to scan the half, like so..
So even though the shadow looks like it's the opposite, it's not at all, it's just the opposite sides that got distorted. Make sense? LOL
