location reported incorrectly...
They got the location wrong... this pig was shot in southern Iowa. Just joking.
Ever since William Faulkner, they set stories like this in some poor southern state as though the same are jungles somewhere in South America. It may even be a true animal, but it's always a huge pig in the South. I suppose the northwest has it's crazy wildlife as well, but small bears and huge pigs seem to be all the South has to offer.
I was putting in for a rabid overgrown buffalo but they said there aren't any down here. My next choice was a cross eyed turkey that could fly chandelles, and they actually found one in Mississippi somewhere, but it was judged too boring for mass consumption and nobody ran the story.

That picture was in the paper today. They say that it is being turned into 500-700 lbs of sausage and the head is being mounted. I don't have the article right now but I believe they said the head was 17 inches wide and it took 6 shots from a .50cal to take the thing down.
