would the radiation just go through the RB? It isn't made of radiation resistant metal is it? GAMA rays can go through 6 ft of concrete I am sure particle radiation can go through a substantial amount as well...
This is a bizzare question but a friend of mine and I were talking about cancer rates in pilots and he swore up and down that pilots over 60 often die of cancer due to radiation exposure (these are airline guys at FL4500 maximum)... scared the crap out of me... however I haven't found ANY studies to back that up. Pilots do get more skin cancer than normal however. Have any of your RB flying friends ever had cancer? And if so, what was it attributed to if it was attributed to anything? Curiosity here.

Hi ALtitude full pressure suit flights for nuclear sampling goes back into the late 1950s. The RB-57D built during the same time frame as the original U-2a-c models, flew many of these (and photo recon) missions. Here is a picture of a "D" about to penetrate. The wing pods have filters to collect "particles" and a scoop under the fuselage gathers air samples for compression into a tank. U-2s also flew these missions.
