Things I don't like in our 2016 contract..
I voted yes but, like everybody else, had several issues with our 2016 contract. It seems like each time a new thread pops-up within minutes we end up going back to the pros and cons of our new contract.
I figured it'd be good with a thread dealing with this specific issue so we can discuss other subjects without much interference.
I'll start:
* I'm glad our furloughees went back to the DOH pay longevity-wise but thought it'd apply to their vacation and pension accrual too.
* Guys/gals who retired during the 2006 contract took care of us, junior pilots, during the furlough years. I wanted to make sure we took care of them. So I figured every person who retired during the contract should've received some kind of bonus/retro pay. Yes, even if it meant lower bonuses for the rest of us. They were here for us when we needed them. We should've been here for them.
* Speaking of our Bonus - it was, without a doubt a disappointment. Thought it'd be at least what the 2006 bonuses were (adjusted for inflation)
* I was hoping for ANC and ONT jumpseat protections. For example no more than 1 or two priority 3s on flights to/from ANC. I voiced my concern about this issue at several GMM meetings and felt like it was an issue they're going to address. Now it feels like Anchorage commuters were left out.
Overall I'm pleased with the contract and applaud our EB for getting it done BUT I think it's healthy for everyone to be able to vent about things we don't like.
(Referring to several other threads here).
I hope this will become the venting thread and that we'll be able to enjoy good news on other threads without interruptions of the half-full crowd.
I often agree with them but maybe we need to channel our disappointment in other ways.
So here's your chance...

RSV language was a giveback to me. We got the extra day OFF, they got 1-2 more days of coverage with little restrictions. Unbalanced, not unexpected.

Agreed. Reserves got screwed big time on this go round. The 14 day ON vs. 15 like before is smoke and mirror. Expect to be gone 16 with the shortage that exists now in the system. But it is what it is. Contract is signed, sealed and delivered. The 92% who voted YES have no rights to come on here to b1tch about any of this.

It's still my goal, being a KY boy. Just stinks having to take a huge pay cut in year one. I had high hopes that'd be fixed since everyone else has around $80 year 1 pay.
It is what it is. I'll just make my better half work full-time again...

I asked some union guys about 1st year pay during negotiations. Don't remember the details but I took home that UPS sets probation rates, it's not necessarily negotiated. A management guy told me once that the low rate helps to weed out people who aren't committed to a career at Brown. I think it makes it harder to leave - you look at that year as essentially wasted. In the end, the year goes quick and once the money starts rolling in it doesnt stop. For comparison, a full year on this contract as a line holder flying a mixed schedule of domestic and international, you will gross a slight touch shy of a 12yr 76ER FO at Delta on their new TA (2016 aggregate rate from Oct 9th Negotiators Notepad, PS not included). That's not bad. Worth it, no doubt. Necessary? Absolutely not.

Yeah, it's definitely worth it. But it just seems like you're paying for your training. Strange that first year FO's at regionals now make more than UPS! It's definitely a hardship for that year. I'm figuring out how we'll make it work. But we lived through it years ago at the regionals. We'll make it through again.
