They prognosticate retirements for sure though. Even without forecasting any growth (which I think is overly pessimistic) I would anticipate continuing to hire 100 - 150 per year for the foreseeable future. As always, internet advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

this is just anecdotal but I’ve had several MIL guys doing their familiarization rides on my flights and IMO a lot of these dudes are waiting for the big 3 to open up again to jump ship. I have passenger experience and many seem to probe a lot about it. To each their own, I give them the best advice possible, but it seems like most of them were just waiting for that call. I hope I’m wrong.
Most of them had a completely different perspective of what we do. They fail to realize we don’t work as a normal airline and that baffles them.

Most folks in my reserve unit hd no idea about our flying and the benefits of cargo in general.

Over the course of my military career (20 years) I can count on one hand the number of folks spreading the gospel of cargo flying. They, and my research, convinced me that someone hitting the airlines in their early 40s was best off going UPS/FEDEX. Our first year pay does an excellent job of deterring quite a few guys. UPS is an excellent job, but management seems determined to crap on the hourly folks every chance they get.
