I used to fly to those places quite a bit on fifi. Long ago. It seems that the company has decided to make the guppy the overwater equipped airframe of that guage, not fifi. I don't think that will change anytime soon.

Was told during recurrent last week we might se Huds in the Airbus. Was told no on RNP stuff due to FMGC prices but Huds are in the future . Find this hard to believe personally

Here’s some facts on RNP approaches. It has absolutely zero to do with FMGC’s. It’s about money and insurance. When DAL turned on RNP approaches on 320 fleet there was not one item of improvement to any hardware or software. I speak directly to this fact because I worked there during this transition.

When DAL bought 321’s they negotiated the cost of turning on RNP approaches for the fleet. We trained it for over two years waiting for the money end of it to be approved.

HUD’s. I seriously doubt it. There is zero advantage to a HUD with an airplane that has CATIIIB certification. a nice toy on takeoff, maybe, or during a single engine approach, but a waist of money. I flew airplanes with. HUD but it had EVS built in which was really the perfect compliment on an airplane that was Cat I Certified but alllowed you to get down to Cat II mins(no auto land airplane)

I agree with the hud seeming to be a waste . Don’t see what we get out of it . The fmgc thing and RNP , just a messenger of the rumor . What you said could be true , makes sense .

Then again most of the stuff on the interweb is true isn’t it 🙄🔪

United fleet update
As the airline continues to execute on its comprehensive fleet plan which includes its widebody replacement strategy, United today announced an order to purchase an additional nine 787-9 aircraft. The company expects to begin taking delivery of the additional aircraft in 2020. The aircraft will be used to replace older widebody aircraft currently in service. By the end of this year United will have 40 Dreamliner aircraft in its fleet and 24 on order. United will continue to evaluate opportunities to purchase used aircraft.

Awesome news! Still don’t know what widebodies are being replaced.

Today's announcement is not reflected on Boeing's website yet (still showing 4 787-9s total on order for the year). Perhaps the 26 missing aircraft equals today's 9 787s. Will be interesting if the number of MAX aircraft on order magically decreases again soon without an announcement. One can hope, eh?

That is a very good question. I am all for widebody (read payrates) orders, but we definitely need narrowbody orders going forward. More of Both!
