Quick question... is there anything wrong with where you put it?

Anything wrong with just putting it on your tie?

I understand that people where it in different places. I am talking about no pin and many of the ones I have seen are not from 83 they are younger and must have an issue with the organization. Just sayin

That's where I wear mine. Take it easy. Just asking a serious question as a new to ALPA guy.

I ask, because at indoc and then 737 training I wore mine on my lanyard. I didnt know where to put it and... we were not in uniform. A few months on the line someone quite rudely said something about it. After my 30 minute brief on ALPA during indoc about how to pay dues, I guess I missed it. All in all, not a great intro.

I heard enough stories about the "intro-Nazi" that I wrote the MEC membership Chair last year.

I was pleased that he too had heard the complaints, and that someone else was now giving the "welcome" brief.

Unfortunately: the previous Reichsmarshal had done the vast majority of "Zine zee paperz!" indocs in the last two years.

As such, a big percentage of newbies may have been put off by it. Damage was done...but not irreparable.

Time to be a diplomat, and talk about it over a beer on a layover, if they don't wear it.

Like democracy, it ain't perfect, but it's the best we've got.

Genuinely curious as well, care to educate us or just be snarky?

Of course, this is the kind of attitude that could be off putting to some about the whole concept. Instead of snorting back a reply like this, maybe you could take a moment to make the world around you a better place. As a student of history, I know why with the pin itself, now I'd like to know the history of the tie rather than the lapel or anywhere else.

The pin on the tie was a cultural norm at LUAL.

It was a very effective way to differentiate the members from the non-members without having to play "Where's Waldo?" with the pin. This reached its zenith following the pilot strike and continued as a norm.

It was also a display of solidarity with fellow pilots.

And it still is.

Take a look around, do you look like everyone else? (Not applicable in IAH or EWR)
