Paging 89; paging 89 . . .
So it's not record breaking, but here we have 4 777s coming in 2018 with 4 more after that and that is in addition to the 5 787s scheduled for 2018 bringing us to 9 additional WBs in 2018. On top of that we are scheduled to start receiving 737 MAX 9s in 2019 so the annual fleet growth will be around 1 to 2%. All this exactly matches what the company has been saying in their investor conferences regarding 1 to 2% fleet growth.
I'd say you should standby for some serious bids in the fall once the training of the displaced pilots approaches completion.
What's more my total guess with no facts on the 737 news is that this is a simple "kicking of the can down the road" which buys the company time to keep working on a revised order of something better like an A321NEO or a Boeing MoM offering.

We'll be announcing some additional aircraft retirements before 2020. By the end of 2018 probably.

Four new Triples and a bunch of airplanes that won't show until after 2020. It's not bad news. You seem to somehow think these are growth airplanes? New airplanes aren't bad though.....When we actually get them.

Maybe the fleet plan and 777X?

From the ATW article above, pretty strong hint that we are going to buy the 797/MoM when it is officially launched for 757/767 replacement. I've speculated earlier that we'd need a few more WBs to replace 747-400 capacity NLT next summer's high season, but it seemed the company was leaning toward used aircraft. Guess Boeing offered a good deal, and glad to see we won't be buying any used -300s off of our now gasping ME3 competitors. On the bright side of the 10 Max order, at least it is just a conversion of existing Max orders and not really a fresh order. Wonder how many truly fresh orders the 10 Max will generate? I'm guessing not that many. Oh, and no mention of 350 deliveries lately... obviously because they are probably never coming.
It's like having those two old grumpy f's from the muppets around here... except there's like 500 of them.

The company said that the 14 -300 ER's replaced the -400's. Not enough. So, these extra 4 777's really only still are to account for the 747. Not really any new wide bodies, and, I still think we won't be getting the A350's, so net, no new widebodies.
Maybe the fleet plan and 777X?

These aren't even new aircraft orders. What's the big fuss? They haven't chosen Boeing over Airbus ornany other such nonsense. This was just finalizing the -700 debacle. Stay tuned for Airbi inputs. Oh yeah. 4 more heavies. Sweet.

Everyone is entitled to their own view point, but I just don't see how anyone can paint this as anything but great news. The WB fleet is growing, never mind the growth in NBs.
2014 - 125 WB planes at top pay - total planes 691
2015 - 135 WB planes at top pay - total planes 715
2016 - 140 WB planes at top pay - total planes 738
2017 - 135 WB planes at top pay - total planes 742
2018 - 144 WB planes at top pay - total planes 751 or more
2019 - 148 WB planes plus starting delivery of 61 737 MAX 9

No notice of cancellation of our A350 orders. Airbus or RR aren't going to let us just vacate that order without a significant penalty. Stay tuned! Me thinks we'll be hearing about some A321 orders. RR has a dog in this fight also. I don't know how we're going to get out of that???

From a bottom guys perspective , I would think converting to the Max 10 just delays orders till later. Doesn't really handle the lack of domestic flying coverage we'll need before the Max 10's actually arrive.
I agree it's not terrible news but looks like delayed news at the same time , minus the 777 additions
