But just so you understand how this all works, the last equipment bid had unfilled vacancies in SFO which means everybody who wanted SFO had the chance to do so---and there were still vacancies. Unfortunately this does not help your chances.

Well, you're new so you are doing the right thing by asking.

Personally, I am hanging on to the trailing edge of the horizontal stab by my fingertips. Or maybe I have already slipped off and don't realize it yet.

As a wannabe--I spend too much time reading the threads for a bunch of airlines, and I can say with all honesty--stuff like this is one reason I want to be at United. A new guy asks a question on several of the other airlines threads and is immediately blasted for being an idiot or worse.
A common thing I have seen on many UAL threads is "Welcome to United" and then an actual answer to the new guys question.
