Why? Did you get reprogrammed over the last year? Just being sarcastic. Seems like a bogus test if you fail a personality test one year then suddenly the next year you are a new man or women or transgender or gender fluid or eunuch. But I did hear there are test guides out there to pass the hogan this time around.

Yes, it does happen.
1) IMHO, it is a questionable test in certain regards
2) The easiest way to "fail" the test is by trying to beat it
That said, the easiest way to pass on the second attempt is by using the best techniques for the first:
And yes, there is a certain % percentage of pilots that will take the test perfectly and fail because their scores are widely outside of the norm that UA is screening. In the long term, this probably does a favor for both UA and the pilot.

That said, the easiest way to pass on the second attempt is by using the best techniques for the first:
- Read the question and select your initial thought and zip on to the next one. Key words like "always" or "sometimes" are important. Make sure you are honestly answering the actual question.
- DO NOT try to select what you THINK "they" want for an answer so don't overthink anything involved with this test.
- DO NOT try to go back and change answers upon "reflection" unless you made an obvious clerical mistake
The test is not scanning for perfect people so honest responses from folks with "pilot personalities" will do well.- DO NOT try to select what you THINK "they" want for an answer so don't overthink anything involved with this test.

Ha ha I've met several guys that are in need of "help" I hated flying with them as did everyone else. They would change bases because scheduling would get frustrated and now they are off the legacies defying everyone that said they'll never make it. Meanwhile I still get to fly with the nice guys that are unfit for the hogan test.

Absolutely, yes. It's hard to get the turn down the first time... I know. I got the chance to take it again and thought the same thing -"How am I different now vs. 12 mo ago?". Don't worry about why it didn't happen the first time.
Read the question carefully (sometimes/always key words etc) and don't try to game the system.
I started last week. Hopefully you get another shot. Good luck.

I know a few guys from XJT that failed the first time but passed the second time. To me that means the test is flawed or unnecessary. Of course in full disclosure I failed it as well. It happens, in fact of all the guys in my regional new hire class that took it, about 50% of us busted it. They are great guys too that I would have absolutely no issues flying with. But hey it's Uniteds house Uniteds rules despite the hogan seeming rather ridiculous. I was waiting for my second chance when my current employer called. Everything happens for a reason and I'm very happy where I ended up. I let my airline apps expire so I will never know if I would have received the second chance but that's ok. The important thing is in my observation, yes there are a lot who get that second shot. Good luck!!
