There is a reason that NYC M88 CA is going down to four months seniority. The M88 makes the Guppy look like an advanced airplane. The reserve flying is horrible in NYC. The reason that four month pilots can upgrade is because more senior pilots don't want to do it. Maybe that should be a warning to those just starting their careers at a Legacy Airline???

You forget some people sit in an office all day listening to the same BS, looking at the same people making the same money, no real advancement. Then you could be a pilot, fly all over and get paid (after TA passes) over $200K a year. And the company actually has good benefits, health care, retirement etc.

Or the RJ guy doing 6 legs a day to the same places over and over making 40-80k. The sacrifice to fly an old airplane in a not as great of base is worth it to a lot of them

Is there any truth to the idea that United has a clause in their contract that they are to hire from an ALPA carrier? Was mentioned in a regional thread. Thanks

No.....But ALPA carriers do get invited to special events that the hiring department puts on.

I'd have to look up the exact wording but there is a mention of it in the contract. I believe it has to do with preference given to laid off ALPA members.

There is a selection at the top of the UAL supplement on the AirlineApps application where you can indicate that you are unemployed due to furlough from an ALPA carrier. That helps get your application picked to start the hiring process. I don't know the story behind how that was established.

I was feeling motivated. 21-R in the contract is the reference.

Bingo.

Doesn't mean much, one way or the other, in 2016.
