Oh the horror of ALPA Merger Policy.

Rhetorical question....What about ALL of the CAL Pilots that got furloughed post 9/11 that are senior to UAL pilots that have ZERO furlough time (i.e. UAL 1998 hires)? ........again, ALPA Merger Policy.

I guess not enough time has past to heal all wounds or the forest for the trees can't be seen yet...

(p.s. I bet your projected seniority number at retirement (pre vs. post merger) didn't drop over 1000% (1 with 3 zeros) like the UAL late 1990's folks. There's your beautiful forest, can you see it yet?)

It was based on being on furlough still in 2013 when the SLI was done so whatever happened in the past doesn't matter. There are LUAL pilots who were furloughed in the 70s that ended up senior to LCAL pilots never furloughed.

My projected retirement number isn't much different since the pilots around my seniority and senior to me are all much older. It was just that initial 13% drop in seniority that was a bit of a shock.

I'm guessing you didn't see your seniority number more than double what it was previously. When guys used to see 4,xxx and all of a sudden they are 10,xxx that's a big drop in seniority.

No worries bro, just a little "tic" in my post.

But yes, it did drop by a large amount...16 times worse than what what it was projected to be, but it's still good compared to others. (my forest view) Oh well, I just hope I live long enough to retire and from the same company. It doesn't matter in any case.

Enjoy the summer!

12155 pilots on the seniority list after the SLI came out in Oct, 2013.
12159 pilots on the seniority list as of 1 July 2014*
12415 pilots on the seniority list as of 1 July 2015*
12519 pilots on the seniority list as of today!

While I understand potential new hires and those already on the list would LOVE to see 14, or even 15000 pilots within a few years, probably NOT gonna happen.

Maybe, just maybe.. we'll see growth of 2-3 hundred a year. But chances are- Age 67 will happen, and another down turn will also happen.

Anyone want to take the bet that the July 2017 (a year from now) Seniority List doesn't break 13000? [Hope it does.. just won't believe it till I see it~]

Sorry to be the downer here.. but it's better that people live in a realistic world.
Funny/weird when I fly with a newhire or guy who's only been here for a year or two.. and they think they'll be Captains in 2 years.

The horror of ALPA Merger policy largely comes from a lack of understanding what it is meant to do..take the personal positions and theatrics out of what would become an extremely contentious exercise with no end in sight.

That lack of understanding has existed since the dawn of time.

PS. (I'm an XCON...it worked as advertised)

I hope I'm not derailing the thread here, but what total time and total turbine time on average do most folks have when they were hired recently (like within the last 2 - 3 years)? I just got on board with SkyWest and it raises my curiosity why some of the captains that I have flown with are struggling to get a call with five or more LORs and turbojet PIC time...while FOs with less than 3000 hours TT are sometimes being called.

Hello old friend!
We're at 11151 ACTIVE (May 2016), fwiw. And YES, I'll take your bet re: July 2017. Hopefully within 48 hours you'll see why. 🤐

I think the average TT is about 5000. But that's taken with the lowest at 1500 and the highest at 24,000.

How come? Aren't the hiring numbers greater than retirements for 2014-2016?
