Said no real estate agent, ever.

PASlammer, I'm pretty sure I sat next to your wife in new hire class. Best of luck to you both on finding the right place to live. My wife and I are trying to find answers to the exact same question. Schools and commutes are the primary drivers.

I'm looking to move into base, and considering the Sacramento area (Folsom, Roseville, etc). Is it possible to sit Short Call while living there? I've been using google maps to calculate drive times and it looks like it can vary from a 2h drive up to 3.5h depending on the time of day. Would this be a place I could legally sit SC from per the UPA 24-7?

Thanks for the help!

Legally sit? During some times of day, not during commute.

Many people do it. You do have to be careful.

SFO is a special case. Even if there are no open trips, once in a while, because of being the MX base, you have a no notice ferry to other places, DEN, LAX, whatever. They pull a plane out of MX to get to a broken plane. This means that if you get a call, it's minimum call out. Doesn't happen often, but it does.

Most times you will be just fine, but keep the bag packed.

I'm in east Sac. Close to fair oaks and watt. 1:38 mins no traffic. 3:30 mins sfo to sac Friday night at 5pm. Roseville add at least 30 mins minimum. The stretch of I80 between Roseville and Sac can be painful. Good luck.

If you're looking for quality public schools, Rocklin is #1 in the Sacramento region.

Agreed. Check out the Whitney Ranch community there: higher-end development with tons of pilot families, both military and airline.

Lots of firefighters also call it home for the same reason: affordable (for Califonia), family-oriented community, and a doable drive to the Bay Area if you only have to do it once a week.

Agreed, and the morning or late night commute (drive) is not too bad from Rocklin/Roseville

2 - 3.5 hours drive time to the airport?? That sounds hideous. Ya'll should come on out to the DEN... base housing in Parker or H. Ranch. 35 mins to the lot on traffic free E470 @ 75mph 24/7. You'll have to waller around in juniority for years, but you'll only have to change your motor oil once a year!

jsled,
It's spelled " y'all ". Not " ya'll ".
A contraction of "you" and "all".

Sorry... but the Texan in me is out of control.

BTW, the 2 hour drive sure is better than the SAT-ORD commute I did 15 years ago. That was not great.
