No snarkiness or sarcasm intended...but how often do you use the secondary in day to day ops? I was at JetBlue for a year and I remember putting the emergency return into the secondary as the final step of DIAFRIPS.

If there are multiple runways in use for departure, and I have the time will load the alternate runway/performance in the secondary. Same goes for arrival, IAH for example- coming from the north planning 26r but desire 27 since parking on the south side, so I will load the 27 approach in the secondary.
So I use the secondary a good bit.

I never found loading another RW or ILS into the secondary that useful. It is just as easy to select another runway or ILS. Airbus procedures published by airbus have you build the route to the alternate in the secondary on the initial setup. In the US I don't think I ever used my planned alternate. Once again, a waste of time.
It probably has its uses. The only one I found was keeping a copy the original flight plan in case you make changes.

Pretty much every flight I load the secondary with another runway with that runways numbers in the secondary performance plugged in, too. Saves heads down time when the time comes - which happens a fair amount in Chicago and a few other spots. If I didn't plug in the numbers, then like Probe said, I would simply change the runway, but that goes against my nature of being ready for the unforeseen and trying to make my life as easy as possible once the motors are turning.

Sabre is the flight planning part the take off performance is another module that just happened to be introduced at the same time as Sabre.
The performance package will always attempt to provide the crew with the lowest possible thrust required for take off. It does not intently optimize fuel during the take off phase of flight.

You know that won't happen. UAL got the -700s at such a discount, nothing else can compete. I wish it weren't true though since I'm on the Bus and feel it's a much superior product. 😒😒
