I will say that after your reserve commitment is over, pack the bags and move to domicile immediately.

The lack of stress of not commuting to airline job makes up 10 fold for giving up a couple of days here and there.

I see you are a heavy guy in the reserves. Your reserve unit will want you to live outside the back gate so you are more available to them.
I commuted to ANG job in LA. while being based in EWR and CLE. It sucked. two leg commute to work at the guard for a few days a month wasn't smart. problem was I had no money to do it any other way.
You are junior...........and I do mean junior. You will be on reserve/on call and you don't want to be commuting for that. four to five commutes a month would blow.
Commute to your reserve job and make them put you up in VOQ or contract hotel when you are in town. make your reserve unit maximize your productivity so you aren't sitting around in the scheduling shop doing nothing. If you are out of town reserve guy your unit will use you more productively then if you were sitting outside the back gate.
If you have 3 years left to go to get your 20, you can do 2 of those years standing on your head. Get the points you need to have a good year, and double check them. I would only make 1 trip a month to my guard/reserve unit. Period.... Two if ginning up for a deployment.
It's worse with a family. If you have a wife/kids then I really emphasize putting them first and working the reserve gig around them. You'll get grief from your reserve CO for not being a team player.....blah blah blah.
You likely won't get grief from UAL if you trough allot in the reserves, but any way you slice it, a two leg commute sux. Add RJ's to the picture and I see allot of missed trips in your future.

From an outsider, wishing to be an insider, does anyone have any idea how I might be able to get the "call" from United? I've had my stuff in for quite a while watching friends of mine, with less experience and a lot less bullets get called, and subsequently either leave after training or decide not to go in the first place. Please help, and thanks.

Honest questions here. How much TT do you have? How much turbine PIC? Do you have a clean arrest record?

Had 2. One left after training for a job closer to home, one got offered but didn't attend class. I have 7100 TT, 1335 TPIC, veteran, Director of Safety and heavy type rating. Clean record, no busts.
