With the movement going on, I think it is pretty absurd to think that no one wants something based on narrow body preference. The reality is that people are sorting the options and yes, Denver is a very senior base, yet most are just trying to eliminate or minimize a commute. I am 4300, and want more than you can imagine to be DEN based again. I can't go back to F/O ($) but would if I could. Instead, I commute because there hasn't been a DEN Cap bid for nearly 4 years. The f/o bids are backfill to match Cap. Not growth. Until UCH commits to DEN, there won't be DEN growth. Unfortunately, I get to commute while junior pilots drive to work (about 3500 junior to me). Such is life.

I imagine the 65 737-700 aircraft will help DEN see some vacancies for both seats. Lots of 50 seat flying out of there that will hopefully be replaced by 737s.

I think the best odds of routes/hubs for the 65 new 737-700's are routes now flown by the E-170/175... From a capacity standpoint the 737-700 seats 118 in the current layout so that's 42/48 more seats then the bigger rj's vs 68 more then the 50 seater...I can see the 700's taking back a good chunk of the e-jet flying with the e-jets pivoting to markets currently seeing 50 seater flying as those phase out.

Take a 400 bid out west, then when the bumps come you will magically become a Captain back in Denver

Ok. So, wait a couple of years on the whale commuting on the hardest commute possible (half the sfo widebody base lives in Denver). Hope it works out. Has never worked out for me. I tried to game it and lost. Can't stand anymore China. Anyway, I think that ship has sailed. I will actually have to use the traditional seniority system to get back in. Again, it is what it is.

I was told

By the end of 2016 UAL will have 13,000 pilots on its seniority list
Most Junior Captain 9850 seniority

Your thoughts?

13000 sounds pretty close to what they are planning with expected retirements and hiring numbers. I'm guessing captain easily hits 10K+ for 2016. Whale hold outs who can then bump wherever they want in ~2018.

Pilots at the end of 2016? The SEC filing for the period ending 31 Dec 15 shows 11,200 ALPA pilot employees. Maybe 800-1000 will be hired in 2016. Minus 300-400 for age 65 and other. Maybe 11,600-11,700. Just a guess.
