Default M & H alternatives

I just got my initial issue uniforms from M&H.

I am not impressed with what they sent. The quality seems poor, and the fit is absurd. Is this a common problem? Does anyone have an alternate source for UAL uniforms that may be better quality and fit?

I understand M&H is the only company paid source, but I'm not going to show up looking like a bag of rags just because the company paid for it.

I bought my pants at Mens Warehouse. The match was nearly perfect on the color and they are much more comfortable. The pants are made by Joseph & Feiss. The guy at the store was able to match the color. They had a Buy One, get 50% off 2nd sale. With alterations, I seem to remember $150 total for the two pair.

Shirts...take your pick. The jacket is a POS. I think all the buttons have fallen off and I rarely wear it.

I was actually pleasantly surprised with the fit and finish of their tapered shirts. I definitely understand that the pants and jacket look a little silly… Unfortunately I think that is partly a byproduct of the fact that they need to withstand a lot more wear than most suits would.

"A cut above" is known for their shirts and a local tailor can take in the suit jacket if it's too roomy in the waist. As for the pants… the "midnight blue" color is a little hard to match, but just head over to Hong Kong and you can get anything custom-made :-)

Welcome to United! Congrats and please wear your half wing.

That is your new (lowest bidder) uniform. Wear it with PRIDE!

Shirts you can get online, everyones are superior. However, your aftermarket shirts will not have the "vortex generator" collars and if you're not a careful eater, you'll lose little tidbits as they fly off. Plus, it will be harder to recognize you as a UA pilot from a distance if your collar lies flat. This may be an important consideration for you. You know, esprit de corps and all that.

Haggar sells a pair of slacks that are just about exact. No one would know unless they were far too close and had a pair of originals in their hand. And unless that person is a comely lass, that's too close for comfort. I forget the color code, but they are very nice for half the price and comfortable. Check Amazon.

Two options on the jacket: Skip it and waste a ton of money on a leather jacket or spend about $150 and get a nice wool / cashmere blend top coat. You'll look more professional if you do. (Flame away gents!! ) Plus, you won't look like a pilot when you dash into bars on your overnights while wearing it. Yes I have seen guys with their leather coats, with wings, in bars. Wow. Their sneakers really set off the ensemble.

The overcoat (raincoat) will go in an instant on eBay if its still in the plastic and will help offset the purchase of nicer shirts and slacks & coat.

They only go up to a 36 right now. I'm a 38 and their other color pants did not fit had to go to a 40 for a good fit. So I assume only a 34 and below can get them at this point. They are looking at going up in sizes for UAL but not enough demand right now.

Thx. Does the color match? I need shirts as well since the stitching on the company shirts is disintegrating.

Yes it matches well it looks a little darker but my jacket and current pants are well worn. The other colors do not match at all they are closer to the old UAL blue. But the pants fit well, are comfortable and the material is nice. Only complaint I have is there is no stretch just like the M&H pants.

Their shirts are fantastic its all I will buy.

I bought a pair of 34" but had to return them. Good quality but they were too tight in the thigh area for me. They'd probably loosen up after a few trips. I have the Haggar's and they fit well.

I'll add that the A Cut Above shirts are the best.

I bought shirts online. The ones I got from M & H were waaaaay too big. I use my Perrone Leather jacket that I had from a previous carrier. It's not an exact match, but it's pretty close.
