New hire here too...
Based on the union email we got last night, if I want to take all of my 9 days of vacation, then I don't need to make any election at all because it will default to my maximum? And then at a later date I will choose what days I want to take my vacation?

Next week the primary bidding cycle will open. I would expect an ALPA email with instructions to come out as well.

Before the bidding opens we'll see a matrix with the number of vacation slots available to each BES. It just updated after each cycle so you'll know what's still left over after each round closes and is published.
