LAX- 737 or 756?
I apologize ahead of time if this was already addressed, but I didn't find a thread for it...
I was excited and stunned to see that with less than a year of seniority I can already bid the 756 in LAX. Can anyone compare the flying, trips, layovers, long call, short call to my current 737?
Thanks!

Take a peek at LAX 756 schedules of your realitive seniority and I bet many of your questions can be answered. I'll leave it to LAX pilots to speak up about the current RSV situation.
Happy bidding!

I can't speak to the specifics of BES, but having flown both? Go bid the larger airplane the moment you can hold it. When I went from the 737 to the 756, it was like I went to work for a different airline.
Much nicer jet.
Much better destinations. Would you rather stay in Omaha or Maui?

But.....since the pay is the same, I decided to go for seniority.
Getting paid 90+ hours per month as opposed to a 73 hour guarantee means that I actually make a LOT more money on the guppy.
I pick the guppy for weekends and holidays off, summer vacation, and about $35,000 MORE pay per year.

I'd stay on current fleet until off probation... Plenty of time to move to 756.... Enjoy the 737 for awhile. If you go 756 and sit reserve you'll always get bunkie for intl... Which means no flying time.

In this scenario...with a person living in domicile and not minding sitting on reserve...would you consider that a bad thing. QOL over pay?

Reserve flying I'm EWR can be hit or miss. If anything the Reserve guys can often get better trips with flying spots compared to junior line holders from what I've seen over the past few months. I was flying spot for 5 rsv trips in a row. I was thrilled to finally get a bunkie spot last week and get to do nothing. Now this week I sat home on Long call for 5 days without a peep. I Never thought of would say it, but I'm the sitting rsv if this is trend continues.

The pay is negligible... And actually the same regardless of fleet during first year isn't it? Reserve isn't bad thing if your within short call RSV rules... But not flying first year will suck... And landings class for new hires is like a mini check ride from other posts I've read... And while on probation you screw it up enough during landings they'll put you on special 90 day review schedule where you have to go back to training center and be watched for progress...

More red-eyes on the 737 and you'd best like Hawaii if you pick the 757. SNA check-ins for the 737 as well and not the 757. 757 kicks the crap out of the 737 as far as pilot comfort and performance that is unless you like a cockpit designed in the '50's with big, pretty rubber knobs.
Really depends on a lot of factors but as pointed out previously, pay is almost exactly the same.
