The company can buy whatever they want, I'll fly whatever they buy. However if they decide on 30-40 700 guppies, I better not hear a word from the union on scope relief.

Again, the C-Series is not a stretched CRJ or a geriatric 1980s-designed 737. Do a little research - the C-Series is a game changer on many levels. And, according to what I have read, it is apparently a pleasure to fly too (FBW, sidesticks, auto throttles, Collins ProLine Fusion, huge cockpit windows and a roomy flight deck).

But in the end, the per-unit cost and the ability to support a new fleet will largely influence the bean counters...
It's a mini-787 from an economics standpoint. No one can compete with it.

If anyone remembers, that's how LUAL got the 737-500's in the first place. Boeing made a deal we couldn't refuse. Very similar circumstances. The plane wasn't selling well, and Boing told UAL we could have 3 737-500's for the price of 2 737-300's. Pretty good deal and UAL jumped at it.

Seems like very similar times.

Nah. They'll go for the "larger" E195-E2. LOL. Maybe we'll see them by 2019.

Looks like Delta might be interested in the C-series. From a Reuters article:

Delta CEO says mulling purchase of Bombardier CSeries jets
Jan 19 Delta Air Lines Inc is considering whether to purchase Bombardier's CSeries aircraft, the carrier's chief executive said Tuesday, in what could be a headline-grabbing win for the planemaker's new flagship jet.

Canada's Bombardier is hoping to find a major customer to give momentum to the single-aisle CSeries as the jet prepares to enter service after delays and cash problems.

Larger rival Boeing Co already looks well placed to snatch at least part of a deal for about 30 small jets from United Continental Holdings Inc, worth around $2 billion at list prices.

"We actually think at the right price it's quite a competitive airplane, particularly given the engine technology," Delta's Chief Executive Richard Anderson said on the airline's quarterly conference call with investors. "We're taking a very serious look at it."

Delta, the third-largest U.S. airline by capacity, previewed the jet in late December at its Atlanta headquarters. (Reporting by Jeffrey Dastin in New York; Editing by James Dalgleish)

Just curious, how long were the 500s in the fleet? How old are most of our Airbii? Boeing might be offering a sweet deal, but if the jets aren't competitive in the long run they still may not be worth it.

The Airbi were shortly after the guppies. I'm not sure but I think mid to late 90's, most of them. I think the A319's are a bit newer. No idea how old the used airbi are we are getting.

The 737-500's were early to mid 90's. Quite a few of them were dedicated Shuttle fleet. We had them until they were parked for the merger along with the 300's.

Found a link online; first A-320 delivered was 1993.

I want to say the last aircraft were delivered between 2000 and 2002 (I was flying it in 2002).

Just found a production list. Last Bus was a 319, May 2002.

This is a very beaten dead horse but no, they were not "parked for the merger..."

Legacy U's 737s were starting to be parked before any merger announcement let alone decision was made. Sorry...

Wrong.

They tried the merger in 2008 or so. The fleet mix didn't work out. UAL decided to park the 737's to make the merger numbers work.

I talked to a management guy who was in the room when the decision was made.

We did not park 737's before that.

It's all ancient history now.
