Fifi vs Guppy for New Hires

Actually pay is NOT better overall on the 737. If you get International, based on the EWR discussion, you get a $4/hr override. also the blended rate on the 756 is higher than than the 320 and 737 blended rate. I make a couple hundred more than a good buddy of mine every month on a pure domestic schedule, and if I get an international schedule it goes up. Also if you are a line holder and get 763 or 764 flying you move up a pay band or 2. Next month I have all 763 trips. I will make almost $1000 more than a 737 pilot with the same credit.

If you are junior you will be junior for longer on the 757, for the most part, you will never see the 767-400 pay. Going in to the winter months, most likely you will not be breaking the 73 hr guarantee.
Since the guppy seniority moves fast, holding a line, and above reserve guarantee will even out the pay between the 757 and guppy. Then there is the QOL issue. Much better, faster movement on the guppy. Also, have to decide if you commute to reserve on the 757, commuting expenses will add up quickly vs. holding a line on the guppy.
So, bottom line pay is not necessarily the best take home. I can see the guppy as making more take home easily.

BUT....the freeze is also at the company's discretion.
They can --and recently have-- awarded pilot bids from the 737 to the 320 (and vise versa).
You just can't:
1) Assume that they will let you do it
2) Know ahead of time what "manpower planning" gurus are doing (in all fairness, they often don't either )
You can always bid UP to a higher band at any time.2) Know ahead of time what "manpower planning" gurus are doing (in all fairness, they often don't either )
FWIW, the bands in the UPA are:
1) 321/320/319FO, 737FO
2) 767/757FO
3) 747FO, 777FO, 787FO, 350FO
4) 321/320/319CA, 737CA
5) 767/757CA
6) 747CA, 777CA, 787CA, 350CA
And yes, UA opening a new BES would exempt pilots from a freeze. A regular "unfilled vacancy" would not...but if the company needs pilots in a specific BES they can (and have) awarded bids that would normally have not been permitted by a freeze.2) 767/757FO
3) 747FO, 777FO, 787FO, 350FO
4) 321/320/319CA, 737CA
5) 767/757CA
6) 747CA, 777CA, 787CA, 350CA
It's the old adage: always bid what you want...you just might get it and if you don't really, really want it....don't bid it as you just might get it.
