When New Pay Rate Starts with Vacancy Award?
I was awarded 777 on Vacancy Award 1510A... The final award notice stated VACANCY AWARD Final EFFECTIVE 9/29/2015 (October Bid Month). Is my interpretation of the contract correct that I'll start getting 777 pay on 1 Dec 15 which is 2 pay periods after effective date or on the date I start training (11 Nov)?

There are about 4 different things that will trigger pay protection. The contract covers this quite well, and has been discussed extensively in previous threads.
There is a pretty good chance you can be paid before that. You have to keep track of guys junior to you that are trained. If training takes long enough you may also be due a bump. First place I'd start is go back and do more reading in the contract.
Be careful of the terms. Pay protection, start of pay, and a couple of other terms are all mixed together. Activation in category, is brake release on the first leg of IOE. Those are the guys you have to keep track of. You also need to research TDY. Any TDY into your future category will trigger pay protection. Anyone trained on subsequent bids that gets trained. It gets to be a nightmare, but hey, it's only money and your time and effort to keeping track of all this. I tried to get ALPA to track all this through a resolution, and it vanished.
And of course, UAL won't pay you before you make them. Seems they conveniently don't track pay protections.
