Understood. But can you see the FO in the video? Is there anyway to prove who he is? Do you know if the CA asked his FO if this was okay and what his response was? Do you know if it was a jumpseater who asked the crews' permission if he could mount the camera?
Seems like your making a lot of assumptions. Maybe you should worry less about things you don't know about.

You've never violated any company policy or FAA policy? If it's a company policy fine but I think people are freaking out a bit for no reason. When the rules were written I'm sure they weren't thinking about go pro cameras, rather handhelds thinking one guy would be shooting himself while flying waving at the camera! It's one dude with a clip on camera that's not prohibiting him in any way of doing his job, he just wants to maybe record something for his friends and family.
It appears to me you're at a regional. A word of advice, learn from this thread. Long live the downfall of Getline. You don't think it's "any big deal". I can tell you for a fact that United does.

You are advocating willing violation of FAR's and company policy? Company policy, if you are lucky, will only get you fired.
Willingly, knowingly violating FAR's, careless and reckless operation, will get your license revoked, not a suspension.
Whether the policy and FAR's are dumb or not is not the issue at hand. The judgement that goes along with this kind of choice is. That judgement will get the FAA's attention right away. If you, or anyone in my cockpit ever tried that kind of unauthorized electronic device, also an FAR violation, you'd be invited off the flight.

Id guess this video was shot by a jumpseater honestly. There are tons of different small cameras out there that easily wouldnt be noticed it. Doesnt look like the CA noticed the camera ever. Plus, the music? Horrible taste. I doubt if that guy made this video, that would be music he chose. (Just a guess, but how many guys his age are into this kinda music???)

Sigh. So I'll answer since you seem so indignant about it.
He posted several videos of his escapades on his YouTube channel, so your jumpseater theory is gone. Yes you can see the FO's face, and he wouldn't be hard to identify. No idea whether he gave the "c"aptain permission to take and post the video, but either way the "c"aptain is a DOUCHE for putting his FO in that position. Even if it WAS a jumpseater asking for permission to mount a GoPro during flight the captain would be in violation of the FOM and the FAR's. Here's a recommendation... I don't know if you can Jumpseat at your current job or not, but don't ask the Captain if you can film the flight. You'll end up out on the jetway most likely with a call from your Jumpseat coordinator.
You don't think it's a big deal obviously. Neither did M.G. and she's got LOTS of free time to talk to you about it now that she's gone. Posting this crap on YouTube to feed his giant ego makes pilots in general and United Pilots in particular look really bad, so yes, it's something we have a right to be concerned about. I'm disturbed for our future that there are so many pilots who haven't made it to the majors yet who don't understand why this is absolutely unacceptable. Hopefully you'll get a little mentoring along the way.
*Condescending attitude intended. You deserved it

I'm thankful that the people posting things like this are not United pilots, because I would hope that we all know better.

These questions need to be answered when someone blindly accuses someone of something that they don't know if they even did. It's important. Get the facts before you slander someone. I'm not standing up for this flight crew, I'm standing up for the process. I do believe that this can be a big deal, but I also believe it's not the OPs job to police the internet. Get a life. I have better things to do than hunt through YouTube looking for pilots to bust, give me a break.
I don't post videos to social media of my mediocre landings because it would be embarrassing. A picture of me in the cockpit? Sure. Oh, and it's at a "major". Gasp! Can you believe I made it?
Thanks for the condescension. I apologize for standing up for those who can't speak for themselves... Or is that too American for you?

How wonderful that you speak for the entire UAL pilot group. Do me a favor and google "delusions of grandeur". You may be suffering from bipolar disorder, schizophrenia or other delusional disorders. Might want to get that checked out before they let you fly another airliner.
