All of the above is absolutely right. Also, the pay is the same your first year, so why subject yourself to school again?

Your friend can bid back up until day 1 of aircraft training. Once he starts training he is done for, thats when the seat lock starts.

The only gouge you'll need is for the systems test, and it is actually on flying together. Instructor will show you where it is on day 1. Everything else is very straight forward and not worth stressing over.
