You're missing the point entirely and letting your Marvin show.

It was a BETTER job before hand. Every year, they slice off another piece of the sweet stuff and add more of the colorectal kind. Before you know it, that GREAT CAREER and job you got way back when has morphed into just a job. So, before you willingly sign away the next slice and get nothing in return, pause and think about what the career used to resemble. Ask some of the old guys about their work rules, their pay and their benefits.

Of course there are lots of guys who want your job. Who cares? And, how did that factor into your decision, your blood, your sweat and all the money you invested to get your ATP? The FA's want your job too. Hell, I want my lawyers job! Does that mean we should just suck up everything that comes out the chute? As Sgt Emil Foley said, "My Grandmama want to fly jets!" Maybe we ought to degrade and demean the profession even more because thousands of third world types would "give anything (**AND WORK FOR HALF of what you earn**) to be in your shoes"?

The whole point is, reserve used to be much better. So were the lines before PBS (for most of us). So was Vacation Override. So was month to month interface. So was training pay. So was the quality of the Health Care. So was the Pension. So were MOST of the benefits. If we keep this crap up, the job won't be worth the TAFB.

Yikes!!! Do me a favor and uphold the contract for us please. This job is great and yes we are lucky but it's only because we fight to keep it that way. So call out their bull**** and hold their feet to the fire and fight to keep this job great.

There is a long list of pilots that "did anything to be in your shoes".....

Contract openers are coming up and we need every vote so dump some cold water on your head and toughen up.

Mako, one of the best posts we've had for a long while. Enforce your contract, insist on it!

Speaking of that I must now take the time to fill out a PDR on hotel transport...

GatorPilot,

Welcome to UA DCA 320. I've been here a couple months. My two cents is to stay closer to IAD; but it's doable to stay near DCA (just know that traffic and Metro delays can be legendary in D.C.). BWI from IAD is a hike, but you should have ample notice for assignments there.

I've found reserve to be pretty easy and quiet. Some weeks, there might be a FSB assignment or two; other times, I'll go weeks without one. I haven't had a lot of short call either. If you request a trip for pickup that fits into your silo days, I think there's a good chance you'll get it. If you don't want to fly, put in for nothing and you'll likely sit. I've had a lot of long call. I live in base and wanted to be home a lot this summer; things worked out well. I've found Scheduling to be accommodating, for what that's worth.

Welcome aboard!

My commute to DCA, IAD and EWR are all fairly the same so just wondering the best choice. Thx!
DCA is the base name, a holdover from ancient times before IAD was even built, but IAD is the admin location.

For the Bus, on average IAD has 50-60% of the flying, DCA has about 30-40% and the rest out of BWI. Will vary a bit from month to month, and the wildcard will be what happens when the 737 base gets spooled up to its final size (about halfway there at the moment)

BWI is definitely the small training wheel on the bicycle of the DCA base.

Hence his status of being the God Father of FUPM.
