If the retirement age changes to 67 I promise I'll call in sick for at least two months and do my part in shutting the country down!

Absolutely and without a doubt. Folks who post on bulletin boards are a very small minority, and these boards lend themselves to venting and whining by me and everyone else. Once the door is closed there is no better job and no better people to work with. There is an historic hiring wave right now. Hope for DAL but AA or UAL if not.

I'll mostly echo APC225, but my caveat is I'd do it the same way I did: with a Guard or Reserve job as a backup.

It took more commitment (working two jobs), but reduced the financial threat of a furlough or strike.

If I hadn't had that backup? Would have enjoyed the flying and most of the people, but hated the uncertainty.

Other industries, and the military, can be equally disappointing, or worse. Timing is everything. Ask a steelworker or autoworker. Roll the dice, and take your best shot.

Don't put all your eggs in any one basket, especially if someone else controls that basket.

You are correct, Sir. They had nothing to say about Age 65 either, despite what the ALPA haters would like everyone to believe.

And at one time United hired pilots with just a Commercial and 300 hrs. I know one, he retired as a 747 CA. Timing is everything.
