This thread is no longer relevant as the impending ORD 777 displacement will mean that you have to have 8-10 years to be a Captain again

Yes, many if not most of the 37 cockpits are deafening. Do you know who's health the company values more than yours? A breakdown in cockpit safety (communication) when you disregard the Captain isn't a good ledge to stand on.

If only there was technology available that allows exceptional communication/safety while protecting employee health....

What an egotistical assumption. When I'm sitting at the CPs desk and I get sent an FO who was removed from a trip for insubordination, I actually would make no judgement at all. I would, however gather information, to include witness statements and a review of any previous discipline issues with either pilot.

And my first question to you (Because you will be coming in to explain yourself) as PIC of the flight would be:

"You get paid handsomely to make things work and keep our operations running smoothly. Why weren't you able to work your way through this misunderstanding with your FO and protect our schedule?"

Also, I've known Huggy for a long time. He's the real deal and a really nice guy. You come off on this bulletin board as an entitled, self-absorbed, pompous jerk.

I wonder why that is?

(That's rhetorical, please don't answer.)

Wow Mr Aspiring, name calling Chief Pilot. Its never even come close but keep up the ridiculous rhetoric. I’ve not once had to ask an F/O to partially displace an ear cup and probably never will. If I ever have the misfortune to fly with a self important “jerk” like yourself and you refuse to meet me halfway, I’d feel pretty comfortable speaking with the Chief.

Do us all a favor and don’t take the job if offered.

Any pilot in the flight office who would make such a dumb comment to a Captain doesn’t deserve to be there. We respect Captains authority here. The guys who make nebulous, non specific statements like that have been run out of the UAL flight offices. ALPA does a good job of keeping those guys out. (Scabs, company stooges etc). To be clear , I’m not saying the headset position is right or wrong. Just pointing out what a dumb thing that is to say to a Captain
