So what do you when your cockpit-mate has their headset on? Do you make them take it off? Seems like you are setting up the cockpit for a breakdown in CRM.

You sound like a really fun guy to fly with. I especially like flying with captains who are considerate...of their own thoughts and feelings. As long as you’re happy the pairing will surely go well. Good luck.

Less. Having the opportunity to dissect every monthly SSC report while on furlough, the number was running around 3%. There were a lot of months where ~25 pilots turned 60 and there were zero retirements. And that retirement number included over age 60 pilots. Nor did retirements pick up when the leading edge hit 62 and became eligible for SS.

I can still remember my mother back in the 1960s stating that she'd never collect SS. She collected for ~18 years, until her death.
SS may get modified over the course of your career, but it won't be gone.

SS benefits have been subject to federal (and many state) taxes for a very long time. Likely since before you were born. They started being subject to federal taxation in 1984.

IF I were still an FO, and IF we had a pairing together (IF we worked for the same carrier), I would not reduce my use of ANC hearing protection for your convenience, for as long as we were paired up.
And I would gladly join you in the Chief’s office, if requested, to relate that my aural health is more important to me than ...... you.

Last time I checked there was no requirement to use the intercom system so what would your defense be? Bet you a whole wad of cash you’d be furiously tap dancing away explaining while you were removed from the trip in front of the CP for non-compliance. Guess that’s your call.

Membership have been told that SWAPA assisted WN Flt Ops in recognizing the health benefits and inflight risk mitigation of noise-cancelling headsets. As a result, some years ago, every pilot at WN was Issued a TELEX 850 NC headset.
Many pilots still shell out of pocket—with SWAPA-negotiated discounts—for personal ‘high quality’ noise cancelling headsets. It’s a d*** noisy airplane, and we generally don’t settle for using the overhead speaker.
I mean hey, we don’t want folks thinking we’re L-UAL!

Well, crew communication is really such a small part of effective CRM. I mean... a headset purchase like that would take a big bite out of UAL stock buyback & bonuses.
