For those who think hearing protection is for losers this is from the AARP website I originally read about this in a book called the Brain that healed itself.....
Enjoy:
“Essentially, the researchers said, hearing loss seemed to speed up age-related cognitive decline. ... Compared with people of normal hearing, those with moderate hearing loss had triple the risk. Lin is quick to point out that simply being at increased risk does not mean a person is certain to develop dementia.”
I have the dc-pro. I would like to know who my kids are when they come and visit me in the old folks home.

Membership have been told that SWAPA assisted WN Flt Ops in recognizing the health benefits and inflight risk mitigation of noise-cancelling headsets. As a result, some years ago, every pilot at WN was Issued a TELEX 850 NC headset.
Many pilots still shell out of pocket—with SWAPA-negotiated discounts—for personal ‘high quality’ noise cancelling headsets. It’s a d*** noisy airplane, and we generally don’t settle for using the overhead speaker.
I mean hey, we don’t want folks thinking we’re L-UAL! 😜🤪

ALPA should make this a priority instead of "dont lazer me BRO!" one you'll never stop the other you can. I'm 51 and my hearing is bad! Most of my hearing loss is form skillsaws and nail guns during my former life. However, the constant drone has also contributed to my loss...I've been using bose headphones for the last 5 years and DC prior to that. Nothing will reverse hearing loss it's just management now.

I'm sure you remember that this was discussed last year on a different thread, and I pointed out that despite what I would rather see and do, I would always "make it work" based on what the Captain wanted to do. That's part of my job. I know you read it, because you commented positively on my post. So unless you just feel the need to remind all of us "youngsters" and those of us "that need more time under our belt doing this job" that you're Captain El Jefe on each and every post, you can rest assured we have figured it out. No one is planning a mutiny on the flight deck.
Although you may not like it, my post was deliberate, not "careless".
If some day I find myself in the left seat of a 757, I can't run the intercom "the way I want to" because an adequate system hasn't been installed.
As for hot mic noise, in my almost 3 years on the 737, a situation only happened twice were I was getting noise I didn't want to hear. Both times, I simply asked the Captain "would you mind going cold mic?" Problem solved using communication.
As OOfff stated, many others have figured it out this "modern" way of doing things works very well. I find it amusing that you are the one lecturing everyone on the evils of the intercom, when you don't use one... and probably are the most unaware person in the group when it comes to what's out there how, to make it work, and how good it can be.
Your intransigence on this subject is well known and I'm not trying to convince you otherwise since it would be a waste of time. Just please try to speak up, sir.

I’ve tried the intercom and it isn’t for me. When you share the cockpit with myself I won’t be using it, period. No overinflated ego or whatever name you’d like to call me, just stating a fact.
Intransigence indeed !!

IF I were still an FO, and IF we had a pairing together (IF we worked for the same carrier), I would not reduce my use of ANC hearing protection for your convenience, for as long as we were paired up.
And I would gladly join you in the Chief’s office, if requested, to relate that my aural health is more important to me than ...... you.
