New Hire Captains within 5 years

I just think it's unlikely to hold for five more years this time. Would love to be wrong.
I'm trying to make hay while the sun shines.

Thats why the 100 seater captain should Always pay more-- even if it's one MF cent-- than the same longevity widebody FO. i would gladly be a 100 seater captain if that was the case- especially if it were offered in my domicile

Just to understand the industry a little better (I'm currently in the pool at United). What happens if I do make Captain in 5 years and then a large economic downturn happens? Would I be bumped back to FO? Or would I be furloughed as the low man on the Capt totem pole? Is there more job security in not upgrading? Thanks in advance!

In the event of a furlough, and you are a junior captain, you will not be kicked out of your seat unless the seats you are flying are moved/or parked, or (which is most likely) someone senior to you is getting displaced because their seat is being moved or parked.
Wether or not you are ultimately furloughed only depends on your position on the overall seniority list, and wether you decide to be a ultra junior captain or super senior FO will have no bearing on that outcome.

Must be nice guys, enjoy. AA junior CA still around 6000 seniority out of 10,500 and not moving. Currently about an 18 year wait. I'm a Feb 2000 hire and 6830, another 3-5 years for me to junior CA, and that would involve a commute to reserve to Mia or NYC, the current junior CA bases. Being DCA-based, junior CA here is around 4700, another 6-8 years for that. So 22-24 years to bottom DCA CA. Pop the champagne cork!
