Your issues with the device is a separate matter - the iPad support number is 1-877-UAL-ESC9. I hope that helps. I have found the iPad support extremely helpful.

Because you were told if it's on, or not? Not sure I follow.
Thanks for the number, I'll give 'em a call and ask if they can tell me what it is that I don't know.
I agree that the device has potential, a real game changer as they say, the training, however, like all UA's training is a huge disappointment.

The instructors told us (the redoc folks) that the gps following ability on the iPad is not approved by the FAA. I took them for their word.

I disagree on the disappointment part. I just went through redoc and the instructors on sabre, iPad, Jepp FD pro, and WSI were great. I learned a lot. My opinion only. I hope the iPad folks can help you get more understanding on the device.

Let me get this straight, the guy who received training is satisfied, and the guy who didn't is disappointed. Funny how that works.

Again the iPad folks are extremely helpful and are happy to give you all the help you need to operate an iPad and our specific apps. The resources are available.

Question:
In the last week, got an email---either, company, or ALPA, but I think it was the Union---saying that you could use United Wifi inflight and the United App (on the ipad) for "Where is my plane?"
It would show the planned track (the illustration was a west-bound Atlantic flight), and it would show radar wx depictions along that track.
The rationale was that United wifi and United App was approved for use in flight, as long as it was not for entertainment.
Problem is, I can't remember where I saw it: bulletin, email, etc.
Anyone else see it? Flew with a Capt who saw it, but he couldn't remember where he saw it, either.

No problem......there is some good news on this front. PS 757's are currently testing the flight ops dedicated wifi channel. If all goes well it should be officially turned on soon on those jets and on other fleets shortly after.
