The amazing thing about all of these tests is that management actually thinks they mean something. They get sold by a bunch of snake oil salesmen known as "industrial psychologists" using large words and confusing theoretical concepts that nobody really understands nor can substantiate.

Without a doubt, some good people are being denied an interview opportunity due to not getting past the Hogan. My entire new hire class was full of good people. Perhaps there is some merit to the process.

No Hogan test needed. We have hired about 99% good people at this airline pre hogan. The only true stand outs to this rule were a small group "hired" in 1985 at UAL and 1983 ish at CAL. I guarantee you with or without the Hogan we will always have the 1%ers.

Stay away from the extremes. Always or never.

It is, but some questions are phrased with "always" or "never".

i.e. "I always think of others first" (T/F)
"I never lose my temper" (T/F)

Those are good examples. The answer is "false" to both in order to avoid the "always" and "never."

That was the best advice I have heard in regards to the Hogan Test, avoid extremes.

I've taken it twice, both times that advice has served me well.

I know that the military and other lines of work have pretty similar tests (and FDX, DL have something similar I think)... don't recall if they were "Hogan" or not but the basic tenets of honesty and avoiding extremes, narcissism, etc seem to hold true from what I've seen.
