As someone who was very familar with both of the previous systems, i can honestly say they cherry picked the worst parts of each legacy rules. FIFO? Alpa is so hell bent on everything being seniority related....unless your on reserve! Which shows you how much bargaining clout went into are current reserve language. In my bes reserves are getting hammered (ewr777fo)....but until guys start calling in fatigued or worse, nothings gonna change.

If you live in base very tolerable. And 1000 earliest duty is a good thing. Getting converted almost every reserve period negates the "everybody bids long call" claim. Have to use aggressive pickup for trips and preferable or manageable short calls/ FSB.
Hope we can get FSB at least somewhat better compensated and ability to bid long or short call next contract.

Theoretically possible. Unlikely since it is gonna give you a lot of weekend days off and that doesn't even consider previous and next month. 5 day blocks work. Bottom line you can try it in PBS but have a plan B.

I answered the phone once on my last day off. They tried to play the game and asked if I was willing to "help them out." I said no and hung up.
They tried calling back and I had my phone turned off and it went to voicemail. Now I have a distinctive ring for scheduling and I never answer it on a day off, period.

I might sometimes go to the gym and let them know I'll check messages in an hour or something.
They will leave you the message. Then, it's up to you to accept the assignment. You can do it via phone or internet.

When Must Reserves Check & Acknowledge Assignments?
There are four times a reserve must check to see if they have been given an assignment:
1) ON LAST DAY OFF PRIOR TO RESERVE:
· 20-K-7-e: On last day off, all reserves must check CCS between the hours of 1800 and 0059 (Note: The 0059 time is changed to NLT 2359 until the 0100 UPA “day” is implemented).
2) ON LONG CALL:
· 20-I-6-d: If not on a day off, Long Call reserves are required to check CCS after 1500, for a possible assignment put in before 1500. Short Call reserves are not required to check CCS.
3) IF ALREADY GIVEN AN ASSIGNMENT:
· 20-K-4-c-(4): Unless the reserve designates the trip as unavailable, he must check CCS 15 hours before report time to see if a lineholder has picked it up.
4) ON A TRIP: ADD ON FLYING
· 20-I-6-h: All reserves must check CCS after block-in at the end of the trip for add-on flying that may have been added during the current trip. Add-on flying must comply with the requirements of 20-I-6-h and must also comply with the reassignment limits in 20-L if the flying is in the same duty period (20-I-6-h-(3))
RULES FOR SHORT CALL OR FSB:
Once a reserve is given a SC or FSB assignment, they are not required to check CCS for a new assignment before or during that SC or FSB window. (If you finish SC or FSB prior to 1500, you must check CCS after 1500 since you are back on LC)
MAKING ASSIGNMENTS:
Reserve assignments may be given via phone or by placing a trip in a pilots schedule in certain cases. Due to CCS programming delays, current crew desk policy is to call pilots for all assignments (rather than simply placing assignments in the pilot’s master schedule) however a message from the crew desk left on the pilot’s phone is not sufficient to complete the transaction because the assignment must be acknowledged as explained below. Once CCS programing is complete, the crew desk will institute the UPA provisions which allow them to place a trip in a pilots schedule from 1300-1459 on the last day off, or prior to 1500 for pilots on Long Call, with no requirement to call. All other assignments require a phone call.
ACKNOWLEGING ASSIGNMENTS:
There are different ways to acknowledge assignments depending on whether the assignment is a Trip or a Short Call/FSB, and depending on an individual pilot’s CCS functionality.
Acknowledging Short Call or Field Stand By Assignments: Reserves in all fleets must call the crew desk to acknowledge SC/FSB assignments. Currently there is no way to acknowledge SC or FSB assignments electronically via CCS.
Acknowledging Flying Assignments:
All Pilots: Pilots may either call the crew desk to acknowledge, or use the following CCS Master Schedule Update functionality:
· Pull down the “Master Schedule” link in CCS
· Put your file number in the box labeled “Schedule Update” on the Master Schedule page (the lower box of the two on the left)
· Hit “enter” to pull up an updatable version of the master schedule.
· In the updateable master schedule, type the letters “CHK” in the block next to the first day of the trip, place a “Y” in the update box on the bottom right of the page and hit “enter”.
· You should get a transaction complete message on the bottom left of the screen if successful
Pilots with “Pilot Check-in” function available on CCS: Most L-CAL pilots and some L-UAL pilots may also use the CCS>Scheduling>Pilot Check-in function to acknowledge Trip assignments if it is available on your CCS menu. This option is not available for all pilots at this time.
NEW ASSIGNMENTS:
Except for add-on flying noted above, reserves on an assignment may not be given a new assignment until they are released from the current one.
