Company to ALPA NC in Section 6. We have quite a bit of data of pilots wanting to work on their vacation. So we'd like to water down the vacation provisions in the next contract.
Glad you could help out #1.

Picking up a trip on a vacation day
What I decide to do on MY vacation is entirely up to me and no one else. Don't judge me. You don't know my situation. I should have expected nothing less from a few of you trolls that have nothing better to do than bash people. To those who gave legitimate answers, thank you.

The company is never going to overhire to have enough pilots to not have scheduleing flexibility, and we realized this which is why when they do want flexibility, it costs the company and benefits the individual pilot.
If the union feels so strongly about an issue (minimum days off for example) then they will set a hard line that can't be crossed. Everything else is at the individual pilot's discretion. If someone doesn't like it, then they should go volunteer to negotiate the next contract.
A guy moving a vacation day to get add pay, if allowed, sounds like a great deal. All within the contract. Go for it, don't listen to the haters.

Agreed. Some junior guys like me get vacation during relatively worthless periods. Kids are in school and wife is working. I can only play Xbox for so long. Why not pick up an open 3 day and allow a reserve to stay home.

Read Section 11 of the UPA and get back to us on the part that talks about flying on a vacation day. Will the company move a vacation day to cover a trip, sure they will, but then they do a lot of things that don't comply with the agreement.
If vacation gets in your way, don't bid it. At the end of the period the company will pay you 3.25 hours as outlined in section 22 and 24.

Do what you want on you vacation, however, expect to get well deserved grief when you abrogate and water down the contract that applies to all pilots, including you.
