Based on our most recent forecast of pilot needs, we will need to hire 391 pilots in the January-May, 2015 time frame. To that end, we are conducting interviews five days per week. We have been running two Basic Indoc classes per month for the last several months, and will close out 2014 with classes on December 2 and December 9. In January, we will begin having a B.I. class every week through the end of May 2015.

At the present time, new hires are going to EWR on the B737 and A320, but January will see some going to the 76T and 756 in other bases.

They only figure this out 6 months in advance, but retirements rise every year until 2028 when they hit 700+ and I'll bet dollars to donuts we either have a new 100 seat jet on the property, or 30 A-319s show up from an airline in China.

My guess* is 2015 is 800 new hires and 2016 is 1,000+ (based on new aircraft).

The latest number that I've heard was 1100 in 16 months. I believe that came came from one of our Chief Pilots' communications.

Another number that I've heard a lot is that we need to hire 1300 in the next 16-20 months.

One of the rumors that I've heard twice from two different sources is that United is looking at the feasibility of taking our 737-500s out of storage. Feast on that one!

We need appx. 1300 pilots in a 24 mos period starting a few months ago. We want to go to 100/mos but just can't so we may get to 80/mos. So average 60/mos for a while. We still plan on 60/mos for several years.

There is no plan to take planes out of storage. There are plans to aquire 20-40 SNB airplanes either on the used or new market or a mix of the two.

This is all good news either way and yes, I wish we had the planes arriving tomorrow.
