That seems right to me. 1 is no freeze, 2 definitely is.

Then why did my wife, who returned from F/O furlough off Fifi in ORD and chose the Guppy in EWR last February (and went through full training), who then lateraled to LAX over the summer, was then on this snapshot for the 777 in SFO?
There was no freeze for her, unless the snapshot lied and she was going to be denied it on the final award. The lateral did not seem to have any impact on her being able to bid upwards long before two years of her Guppy major training.
OR
Am I reading it wrong what you mean by lateral? I'm assuming you mean a simple base change, but are you referring to seat change? I totally agree, in our situation, if she wanted to lateral back from the Guppy to Fifi, she would be denied as she's frozen on a lateral of the same pay banded seat until two years after the training she had earlier this year.

The lateral doesn't incur a freeze because it doesn't require training.
Lateral = changing bases, not new equipment.

There are THREE types of freezes.
8-D-1 Equipment Training Freezes
8-D-2 Bidding Freeze
8-D-3 New Equipment Type Freeze
A freeze in ANY ONE of these can stop you from getting an award.
The ONLY one of these freezes that can be canceled by bidding a higher category are 8-D-1 Equipment Training Freezes.
So if you bid a new base (i.e. new to EVERYONE) not just to you, then you are stuck in that seat.
If you bid "laterally" (i.e. don't move up or down in position) that's an 8-D-2 Bidding Freeze. So if you go from Airbus to Guppy FO you can't then bid right out to 756 just because its a higher status.
This is different from the old CBA, because this includes upgrading to Captain. You used to ALWAYS be able to move up to Captain, but not anymore, unless it is in the same equipment you are in (if you are on a bidding or new equipment freeze). So lets say you're a 777 FO and you decide to bid the 787 FO. You now get a 8-D-2 Bidding Freeze. Then a 737 Captain bid opens up and you want to bid it. Well sorry, because you CAN'T because of the freeze.
So be VERY CAREFUL when bidding to the same category of aircraft, because you are going to be there for a few years.

Let's say I'm a 737FO and I get awarded 756FO. I'm now seat locked for 24 months, but it does not preclude me from bidding/being awarded 777FO, 787FO, or 747FO prior to the 24 month seat lock ending. As long as I keep moving up in pay bands (assuming no new equipment type), I can bid up at any time without any seat locks applying. Is this correct?

OK, I'd like to revisit this topic because I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer. I reread all of the above sections of the contract and want to make sure I understand.
