While it's true that their names appear on the snapshot, they were only offered 8 EWR737 slots, and 18 EWRA320 slots, so they didn't get to bid on all available vacancies.

I see what you mean. Yeah. A few guys were able to get out of EWR on the A320 to SFO. I think classes coming up will have a mixture of bases to choose from, but it could be heavy on the East Coast since that is where the majority of unfilled spots are.

I stand corrected. They were able to bid, and indeed some did get out of EWR. Let's hope the rest of us don't get stuck in EWR for too long.

"8-D-1-c An Equipment training freeze shall begin the first day a Pilot starts training, and shall apply to any vacancy bulletin whose closing date falls within the duration of the freeze."
There's a LOT more in this section so it has to be read to see if it applies to any particular situation.

You can base lateral at any time... No training freeze to go from EWR 737 to SFO 737 or any other base within 737 while in your 24 months. Same goes for 320, EWR to SFO (I use those two bases because they are junior) ... So all those guys are eligible for this vacancy bid.
As well, any 737 or 320 can move UP in category. ie 737/320 to 756 (which is one unfilled vacancy is EWR). But you cannot move from 737 to 320 (or vise versa) OR down (756/76t to 737/320) during a freeze.

My Dec 2 class had 23 new hires, 3 recalls, and 3 mil leave returnees. The drop was 8 737's EWR and 18 A320's EWR. The 3 mil leave returnees (all USAF/national Guard) went 76T. Our class was allowed to bid for laterals.
With the lateral results today from the DEC 5th vacancy
the score looks like this: (Apr 15)
3 76T
2 737 SFO
1 737 ORD
1 737 LAX
2 737 EWR
2 756 EWR ( will need to complete 737 training and then go 756)
4 A320 SFO
5 A320 IAH
9 A320 EWR
Not a bad spread after being told all going EWR.
Last 2014 class DEC 9 has 25 scheduled. Then one class per week starting in January through March scheduled.
