Yup, as long as they bid a larger aircraft type there is not a training freeze. In addition, any pilot can make a "lateral" bid at any time (example: EWR 737 FO to SFO 737 FO).

8-D-1-d An Equipment training freeze shall not restrict a Pilot in a lower–numbered Equipment/pay band from being awarded a vacancy in a higher-numbered Equipment/pay band, pursuant to the bands described below:
1) 321/320/319FO, 737FO
2) 767/757FO
3) 747FO, 777FO, 787FO, 350FO
4) 321/320/319CA, 737CA
5) 767/757CA
6) 747CA, 777CA, 787CA, 350CA

What if you are in Indoc, and haven't started training yet? My entire class (we start 7 October) was "assigned" the A320, but I sure wouldn't mind trying to get to the 737 or 76T. Thoughts?

In theory, Manpower Planning can relax the restriction at their discretion so it never hurts to bid the 737 if that's what you desire. There have been a few recent cases of probationary pilots switching between the 737/320 despite the training freeze. You can be awarded the 76T as soon as you can hold it in a bid. Note that your A320 freeze would disappear and you would have a new two-year 757/767 training freeze. This would limit you to switching between the 76T and 756 (via a BAT) or bidding the 777 or 747 until the freeze is up.

BUT....with an Oct 7 class date it's entirely possible that the only thing holding you back will be IT if you are not fully in the system prior to the bid closing.

This is a big bid lots of movement coming EWR 756 guys should go ahead and move on up and out....it'll be good for you!

Here is some interesting numbers. Junior CA is 6831 according to 15-02 cat summary. These are the pilots senior to 6831 still FO.

320 - 167

737 - 83

756 - 160

76T - 273

777 - 864

787 - 114

747 - 382
