Default Need a day off?? I don't think so.....

So last month I needed a Monday off. I tried to trade a Monday for a Monday. I call the crew desk, can't do it you've gotta call the futures desk. So I call the futures desk. A MONDAY he says, that's the first day after the weekend! We can't "give" you a MONDAY off! Well I am trying to trade a Monday off next week for this Monday, it's an even trade. No I'm sorry I can't "give" you a Monday off. Okay how about a Saturday then I could really use a Saturday off. No that's a weekend we definitely can't do that! Oh but I thought it was the first day AFTER the weekend that was impossible?

Well no it's the weekend and the day after the weekend. Okay well how about next Wednesday I'll give you a Monday off for a Wednesday. Sorry no coverage. I am on a surplus list because you have to many pilots on my fleet and domicile how could you NOT have coverage during the middle of the week? Sorry can't do it. So I call the flight office they tell me they'll put in the request. Sorry, it got denied they tell me. Okay no problem.....

SO I call the flight office again today to try and move some days around. Sorry they say, you'll need to call the futures desk.......I am noticing a trend here, I say. Well you have to call the futures desk if they can't do it call us back. And then you'll deny me too right? Yeah pretty much, he says.

Guys and girls apparently the new United is trying to alter our expectations by being completely rigid and unwilling to make the most simple non monetary or coverage based denials on any and all schedule modifications.

I guess it's time for them to start paying out some sick list, time to re alter their expectations.....Idiots@!

Standby for the next "Sick list usage is above acceptable levels" letter...

That is not a Working Together attitude, Comrade Coworker. Expect a letter from the Bobs.

Option 2 should have been option 1.

Just a reminder from the contract...if you call in sick for a reserve day after 10am and it's for multiple days...you will not get charged a sick day for that current day.

Some have been known to call this "self adjusting".

Lesson learned yet again.....

The flight office had in the recent past been very good about working with folks on simple stuff like this. Apparently those days are over. My mistake for trying to be a stand up guy.
