Default Motely Fool Says United giving up on LAX

United Continental Holdings Inc. Is Retrenching in L.A. (AAL, DAL, UAL)

United will sublease (out) 4 gates at LAX. How many times have I waited for a gate there? Wonder how this will be spun on the DNU?

He mentions LAX at Deutsche Bank investor conference where he had some intersting comments of previous UAL mgt.
He added: "Our predecessor company in Chicago had done inadequate training (of) its employees and hadn't invested in its employees. We're continuing to do that and are making very significant progress."

Additionally, he said, previous United management had maintained its 747-400 fleet adequately in terms of safety "but not for reliability." As a result, he said, new United "had problems" with the aircraft and had to temporarily base them all in San Francisco, where they could undergo a preventive maintenance program.

It is basically never I agree with Jeffery, BUT I have learned when non revving to avoid the 400 when I have a connection. We cancel long haul international flights on the whim like I remember RJ flights getting whacked due to a squall line. But seemingly Delta runs just fine. Honestly the problems in Willis Tower are beyond a worthless Harvard Law School Grad.

I hope you're not say Jeff is doing a good job. He's running UAL for how many years and is somehow the victim of poor press releases. Don't think so....

Tilton had stopped most preventive maintence on UAL fleets and sold off the parts to suck money out of the company. Jeff can say what he wants about the mechanically condition of the fleets he inherited but he's had the past 4 years or so to fix the problem. HE HASN'T DONE IT AND THAT'S HIS JOB.

Fair enough but we are on the same page! I agree that Jeff is a wretched failure as well as every CAL lackey he brought along. I could care less wear the blame lies, because we haven't fixed a d@mn thing despite our CEO spouting off! I hope I'm not alone in being sick of watching UAL canceling SFO-NRT like its the 335 RJ from EWR-BUF.

They are going to AMR. My buddies at American knew about this weeks ago when they said their operations will be more spread out in LAX and they are asking employees to understand and help out.

Of course we could put real jets back in to the Shuttle gates. Guppies with winglets would be a problem though.

Imaging our management asking for help??

I believe our management will be asking for help as soon as the summer is over. Contractual help, along with "right-sizing" our bases and airline.

You all don't get it, UAL can make more money sub-leasing its gates than they can using them.

"Our predecessor company in Chicago"

BTW that statement is BIG!

What it says is HE owns all the problems which have begun since he took the helm.

Also "selling off the parts" is nothing new, more than one CEO has done such a thing to raise cash. The biggest problem with all these guys is THEY TREAT THE EMPLOYEES LIKE THEY DON"T MATTER!

""Our predecessor company in Chicago had done inadequate training (of) its employees..."

I seem to remember an MEC Chairman who said such a thing about the quality of the training to the point it went to court. At that time Jeff said the training was adequate. Hmmm who's lying or using a bit of hyperbole?

This man is shameless and infected with the disease of this culture, "it's not my fault!"
