laptop/tablet suggestions from United pilots
Hi
I am in the pool at United. Just looking for some feedback from United Pilots. Do you recommend an Ipad/laptop/tablet? What should I have with me for training? What operating system works best with the bidding software? Training software?
Thanks

I carry a MacBook Pro. It's just a better machine. You can run Windows on it using Parallels or VMware if you need. You can get on CCS etc using your mobile device for small tasks, plus there is a package out there called Crew Companion that I use in lieu of the company provided CCS trip trading etc.

I carried a notebook with me including a MacBook Air for a time for over 20 years. A couple of months ago I left the computer behind and am just carrying my personal iPad in addition to the company iPad. The personal iPad has LTE, although a lot of people now just tether it to their phone.

I use company iPad for company use only.
Personal iPad and smart phone for all else. Noise reducing headset if on 737.
Unless you're running a business nothing else is needed.
Plus this. One plug, 5 USB ports.

Personal and Company iPad, extension cord that has multiple plug-ins, and European & UK power adapters. Might as well buy spare set of iPad/iPhone charges and cables and just leave them in flight bag. Portable Bluetooth speaker is nice. I have a slingbox so I rarely turn the TV on when on a trip.

Currently carrying the company iPad 2 and a personal iPad Air. Both easily fit into a Bison Mountain Sidekick II crew bag, which itself fits alongside the Jepp kit in the cockpit cubby.
Once a month I drag my 2007 MacBook Pro along when I fly and need to place the monthly schedule bid in PBS. I simply prefer the laptop for this, although it can be done on an iPad. (It's an interface issue as the PBS interface itself is actually web based.) When the old MPB dies I'll replace it with a MacBook Air.
FWIW, I returned to UA in December after an extended absence and completed indoc and the 737NG course on my personal iPad. (I don't know the current status of the 76T or 320 courses for iPad compatibility.)

First, congrats on your successful completion of the interview process. The company IPad should only be used for Company stuff UNLESS you want UAL to know everything you are doing. As far as computers, I carry a MacAir 11". It's very compact and lightweight. I fly international and the MacAir screen is great for watching my slingbox on the road. A personal IPad with cell data capable is great too for getting schedule updates whilst you are riding in the hotel van on your way to the hotel.
