OMG Seriously? Fuel Efficiency Training???
What level of DISCONNECT do you have to obtain to even consider that you can preach to the pilots to save a nickel for this dump when you screw them out of every cent they are due under the UPA?
I mean really.....I am watching this stupid ULN product that had to cost a huge bill and laughing my butt off as they honestly convey that we even freaking CARE about saving a few bucks for Jeffy when Jeffy fights us on every penny due us in the contract!
First off they have to really think we are moronically stupid and have never managed a budget EVER to go into 15 minutes explaining how if costs exceed revenue then we lose money...and conversely if revenue exceeds costs then we make money! Is this Mr. Rogers day?
When you create such a HUGE divide between pilots and this company of a daily basis then come up with the sterling idea to educate us with a powerpoint presentation, then you really need to be drug tested. Talk about the cart before the horse. Beat us then ask us to work harder...diminishing returns?
Oh but there is a good side to this stupid "training." I harken back to high school when the idiots there sat us down in front of anti-drug films that demonstrated how to shoot up her ion or how to roll a joint and we all laughed and said, "so that's how you do drugs....thanks!" Well part of the lesson was showing how much we spend on different things that UA considers wasteful and it shows itemized ways we save money. Now I know the very best way to waste by avoiding the most savings and going down the path of most waste. Now wouldn't it be different if they actually treated us like a valuable asset to the airline as opposed to a liability? If they actually abided by the UPA? If they truly, honestly, sincerely cared a lick about the "co-workers?" Wow, that would be a real dose of Nirvana, wouldn't it?
Reminds me of the old UA back before bankruptcy....the bankruptcy that we learned was never filed for any other reason than to separate us from our agreed to pensions!
Well UAL can stick that fuel lesson right in the same dark stinky place they placed the pilot's pensions!
My eyes are still watering from the laughing hysterically watching this stupid thing!
Rock on!

Couldn't agree more. What's more, managements actions DIRECTLY contribute to the wasting of fuel. The ridiculous new checklists that have us sitting with all engines running while we accomplish items that we used to do while taxiing, while also simultaneously blocking multiple gates for inbound flights is just one example. Last week I sat waiting for our gate to open for almost 30 minutes (after an on time arrival) in NRT while literally every single other gate was open. Let's do the math, four engines idling at 1500pph = 3000 pounds burned in that 30 minutes for NOTHING. And they want me to try to save them gas. Not gonna happen until they do too.

Best part is.....
I'm just laughing as the ULN BS is running in the background.....all the while playing audio from porn videos! It's so much better that way! Oh and I'm balancing my checkbook too now that UA has informed me about revenues and costs! DUH!

Kinda Like...
ReserveDog,
It's kinda like the N.Korean dictator Kim Jong Un getting all his impoverished citizens together after the daily beatings and preaching how they should give up one of their three meals a day so he and his wife can have more food on their table. Wonder how THAT goes over! Kim Jong sounds like an honorary member of UAL management!

Here's what the FM says:
Note: The After Start Flow must be accomplished prior to taxi. If necessary,
the aircraft may be taxied prior to receiving final weights and before
performance data is loaded in the FMC. The After Start Checklist is not
required to be accomplished prior to taxi.
If the final weights are received and the performance data is loaded, initiate
the After Start Flow followed immediately by the After Start Checklist on the
Captain’s command.
If the final weights are not received, accomplish the After Start Flow at the
Captain’s command. Taxi if necessary. When final weights are received and
performance data is loaded in the FMC, accomplish the After Start Checklist
on the Captain’s command
After starting 4 engines, we rarely don't have our final weights, so consequently all this must be done prior to taxi.
All this verbage, flows and checklists replaced "Salute and release from guidance, Taxi clearance"
Which uses less fuel?

The trade off is that if you can get it all done before moving, there is less head down potential during the taxi. Given the industry wide history of runway incursions, it is not hard to see why there is an effort being made to get more done before taxi out if possible.

United starts 2014 on a weak note
When does the Board wake up and start cleaning house?
United starts 2014 on a weak note – does this set the stage for more disappointing results?

Or, dont cut off your nose to spite your face. My point is we all depend on this company making money in order to have a job. We can't control management, but we can all do our jobs. If I can save fuel I will, even if management policies don't. I wont do it for them. I will do it for you, and me, and everyone else that depends on our success for a paycheck. I can only do my part.
For the record, I think it sucks that I have to do three hours worth of training that insults my intelligence for one hour of pay. Regardless, I will follow the contract and do my best to be professional.
