SIMPLY an observation, I could be completely wrong. However, anyone care to share their opinion on this ?
I agree and it leads to the issue of who would want to be CEO of this place??. I have never been a fan of Jeff. He was brought in to merge us. The fact is that the last guy, Kellner shot the merger down in 08 in large part because if this reason. When Jeff gets his multi million dollar package and moves on to destroy another company, we very well could get someone far more evil. Any decent manager is gonna stay far away from this toxic environment.

I disagree with your toxic environment sentiment. The right person could turn this place around. During a new captains seminar, Sr. Vp's were rotating in and out of the room. Two of them were quite arrogant thumbing their noses at us. In walked Sean Donoghue to a roomfull of very vocal, angry pilots. He left the room to a round of applause. The only applause of the day.

The right person couldn't do it overnight, but he or she could do it.

So you think one person could do this?

No, but 85,000 could. And if you put one right person in charge 85,000 will follow. The CEO who says "labor is not needed"--to labor--is not that person.

It's easy to tell a bunch of guys stuff they want to hear. Changing a culture of us vs them long term can be done...but it is hard and expensive. Outsiders have noticed what satpak77 suggested for years. It has been described as a toxic culture. There are few good managers out there. Lots of Evil SOBs... The good ones ain't looking to come to an airline, let alone one where the culture is combative. I hope we can show that we are ready to be lead...not sure everyone is though.

To turn around any organization one would have to clean house and reinstate like minded people. Even after that, it would take a long time since the cancer runs so deep. You are not going to convince everyone, and many if not most will always be skeptical. I feel enough are here, including the skeptics(me), to turn this place around.

I wish it was that easy but remember 85,000 are not united together. In fact 11,000 are not even close to united together.

One right person, I think that is just too easy. What about the bod, they have done nothing. How about the management below the top person. Are you going to keep them? A bunch of yes people?

How about are entire flight management staff? What have they done, they can;t even get a simple ipad up and running in over 3 years. Did you read the answers from the "leadership" meetings? Not one real answer. Have you sent in suggestions and even received a response from any of these people? Nope, lucky if someone picks up the phone to answer.

I think you would have to clean the entire house, anyone that has been in there for the last 3 years watching this train wreck should be gone. JMO

Ah but he didn't tell us what we wanted to hear. First he listened, then he told us the truth. That is what a leader does.

Syd,

You brought up two salient points. First, how long does the BOD allow a company to continue sliding backwards. Second, how to change years of anti labor sentiment engrained in middle and lower management.
