Default EWR based CFI renewal

At my previous company we could get a letter from the CPO to renew our CFI. Any EWR based guys know if United does this? I know CLE does but you have to be based there.

And what, exactly, did this letter say.

That I was an employee of a 121 airline flying in a CRM environment. The FAA has been renewing airline pilot CFI certificates this way for a long time. The company you work for just has to be a participant in the program.

They (FSDOs) should only be doing this if you are PIC...

That is correct. Only Captains are supposed to get their CFI renewed per 121. In ORD, you can walk into the FSDO next door with just your badge (did it for a few times while at my last company), but they will ask you multiple times and make it clear that you must be PIC (not applicable for FOs.)

Just do the American flyers firc...easy and it's good for life...paid for it 8 years ago at $125 bucks and renew it every 2 years. The only fee I pay now it the $25/50 bucks for the service to have them process it as it costs that much for me to get to a FSDO. it's easy and well worth the money.
