First line month after training?
Wife is in IAH now for aircraft training and class will be done the end of March. She's a returning voluntary furlough and is senior enough to hold an EWR line. Couple questions.
1. Can she bid for the April month? Either a full on bid or at least put in a standing bid?
2. Will she be assigned a line(s) with a check airman (if that's what it's called)? Or just go on reserve and be assigned check rides/trips throughout the month? Or something else?
She never seems to get anybody on the phone for these answers when she's on a training break so I figured I'd ask here for her.
Thanks

I'm not sure how it is done now, but this is the way it used to work at UAL.
It depends on if she has been released to the line by the time bids close for the next month. If she has completed IOE by the 12th, she should be able to bid for the next month. The remainder of the initial month after IOE will be reserve. Also, if she is not able to bid, or bids close before she has completed IOE, she will be on reserve for the next month as well. With that said, I don't know when PBS will let her bid or put in a standing bid. Others that have returned recently will have better info.
You are not assigned a monthly line with check airman. You will be assigned a trip for IOE by the training desk, most likely a trip in the LCA's line. When IOE is complete, see above. Depending on the plane, this may be more than 1 trip to complete the required training or area quals if going international.

Thanks for the info.
Her training changed after I posted and now she's still in training until 04/09. However, on the 10th through the 15th, her PBS shows 'IOS' then on the 17th through the 24th, is shows 'IOL.' The 25th through the 30th is blank.
I read the PBS instruction manual and couldn't find what these two abbreviations mean. What do they mean?
Since it looks like they've assigned her days anyway, should she even bid?
Thanks
