New Vacancy Bid

Seriously. I tried to be excited when I came back from a second, lengthy furlough. But after all the BS.......the anti-merger chest bangers, the mediocre contract, the absolutely crappy trips, the pathetic PBS that gives junior guys what you wanted, working weekends and holidays after 14 years, the abominable operation on a daily basis, SLI, last place airline, etc, etc, I really and truly decided that this industry sucks and is no longer for me. I try to justify the pay for all the BS, but it is not worth it to me. I truly envy you guys that think you are on cloud 9. I wish I felt that way.Peace out y'all! You guys enjoy it. I am playing lottery and going back to my furloughed job. I'll coach little league this spring and be home for every birthday, holiday and vomiting child. Screw UAL and Jeff. There are more important things in life. Oh, and don't forget your sick note from your Doctor, LOL! What a joke. FurloughedX2 over and out.

Hope,
Seems you still want to stir the pot.
First I apologize for the poor attack at you. Watching Lone Survivor and a few beers at Alamo Draft House made me sophomoric. Again, I apologize.
I am not a mgmt pilot. I was afforded many opportunities to go to mgmt but the last year didn't go well. I tried to voice reason for all of us but the higher ups didn't agree. I wanted to try and implement 117 before the due date. I wanted the combined Pilot Records to happen before we moved new hire courses to TK. We have new hires going 2-3 or more without pay, no Cass and etc... It's pathetic. Again I was shot down for a myriad of reasons that I won't begin to explain. I decided not to do this.
I have helped current, new hires and wanna be new hires, even on this website.
Sometimes I have to smile when things are not great but I know the big picture and long-term it will work out. A lot of posters here are bitter, don't have the full picture and/or are sick of the whole thing.
I'm just trying to do my best. Nothing more or less. I want to work with people like Mako and have customers happy. I want to do this job for another 25 years. If I had the decades of misery like a lot previous UAL have, maybe I would just be tired too.
I had leaders in the Marines who just put the "junior" people down becuase they had their own low self-esteem or were angry what life gave them. The other leaders who endured hell didn't want to say how it sucked and you just joined hell. Instead they taught and helped make the situation better. It was addictive to see this leadership. It made things better from what I experienced at Fallujah. I want to try and make this place better, that's all.

Right On Flybynuts! I've been with UAL nearly 28 years and while every Management that has come down the pike has tried to over-reach here and there, but if I had my choice 28 years ago, and knowing what I know now, I'd still like being part of United. Every bulletin board/forums, there is a certain group of pilots that throw cold water on anything positive but I will tell you that I have enjoyed flying with anyone of our pilots - They are all professional and highly skilled in the cockpit. The Safety record of United Airlines speaks volumes.

If you were born in the US and have the mental faculties to fly airplanes for a living, you will have a hard time getting sympathy from a reasonable person.
Your spouse has cancer, bad things happen to your kids etc. then I'll lend a empathetic ear. But otherwise, give me a break.
Too much time away from home? You're an airline pilot....
Not enough pay to support the lifestyle you promised your wife? Well, you chose her in the first place.
Perhaps you have been out of work? Well, if you are posting here, you apparently found a way to make it work and now have enough free time to complain about your lot (better than 95% of the other humans on the planet)
People that sympathize with this lack of perspective are entitled, plain and simple. If this offends you, then deep down, you probably know you are a bit of a princess

That's OK. We're only looking for sympathy from unreasonable people. And 99.9 percent of the other people on the planet don't possess an ATP and haven't been through all the crap it takes to get a decent airline job. In fact, we're not looking for sympathy. We're just trying to improve this job for those working here and trying to leave a better career than the one many of us have endured thus far.
As I learned on day one of 727 IOE, "The minute you stop complaining is the minute they start taking things away."
I guess that you don't have a real frame of reference for what's been going on around here the last three years. This is part of our therapy and brainstorming. Don't like it? Don't read it.
Have a swell day!

I think you are one of those people who would complain about the weight of a free bag of gold.
