Yeah, that's against UAL's culture.
Making 1.5 times your pay makes you a bad guy.
At SWA, it makes you normal (and smart).
Ever wonder why Southwest does so well? It's because the pilots don't see the company as the enemy. They understand that "helping" the company be successful in turn makes everyone prosper.
The fact that many of our "unionists" try to derail the operation at every opportunity to feel like they're saving the profession is what's wrong at UAL. I'm amazed that we are able to stay in business.
Now during negotiations....everything changes!!! No helping then!

I heard today a UAL to Beijing and they didnt understand they need to read back ATC says "maintain".... just a chinese thing. But I thought how much I have lost in 5 years here to fly normal in USA??? Shocking.

Sadly, it may take years to undo the damage that past (and current) management has done. That process could speed up though with new and effective leadership.

"Senior Manning opportunities may be available on Dec 6th & 7th, for 737 Captains in all Bases except Guam. If interested, call Crew Scheduling and let them know. In the event we get to the point junior manning is necessary, you will be in the first group to be called and voluntarily offered such a trip at premium pay."

This is exactly why our careers will always be in a downward spiral. Throw some extra money and watch the wolves eat their own.
How about flying your trips..and enjoy your time off. Never heard anybody's last words being "I wish I would have worked more" But go chase that dollar. Then the next contract the senior guys will sell out the junior for some more $ and the spiral continues.
If you can't live on 100 grand a year when the poverty line is 27 thousand "family of 4" then you have bigger problems.
But go ahead strap on your kneepads and pick up that trip. Help the company out. I would expect nothing less from this combined bunch of suckups. Have fun at the company christmas party too. Be sure to remind everyone how awesome they are.
