Company offered leaves of absence. Darn sure it isn't cost of living adjustment.

Ever wonder why Southwest does so well? It's because the pilots don't see the company as the enemy. They understand that "helping" the company be successful in turn makes everyone prosper.

The fact that many of our "unionists" try to derail the operation at every opportunity to feel like they're saving the profession is what's wrong at UAL. I'm amazed that we are able to stay in business.

Now during negotiations....everything changes!!! No helping then!

The flip side is that at SWA, the company doesn't view the employees as the enemy. Works both ways.

I like Leave OF Absence! I am so far out of the loop! I have been gone for 5 years after being at UAL for 13 years I will feel like a total new hire in the left seat!!!! GOD help me. really..... I heard today a UAL to Beijing and they didnt understand they need to read back ATC says "maintain".... just a chinese thing. But I thought how much I have lost in 5 years here to fly normal in USA??? Shocking.

I beg to differ. I operate the same way every trip, nothing more, nothing less. Any change in the status quo, and they will run back to the judge statistics in hand. If I'm expected to go the extra mile, I'd like a little reciprocity.

That's a valid point about running back to the judge. In a sense, you can't fault many LUAL pilots, since it seems like they were constantly beaten down by unethical and immoral management looking for every loophole to cover their inability to successfully manage.

Sadly, it may take years to undo the damage that past (and current) management has done. That process could speed up though with new and effective leadership.

Meanwhile......IAH 76T FO is down in the suck along with DEN, ORD, and IAD 76T. 36% rsv coverage for Jan. Not quite the 41%, 40%, and 38% RSV coverage at IAD, ORD, and DEN...but pretty fat. It's great for snow skiing or watching the playoffs while sitting on your arse eating chips for $10K per month, but it's no way to run an airline. If el Jeffy wants DAL numbers, he'll have to do better.

This is exactly why our careers will always be in a downward spiral. Throw some extra money and watch the wolves eat their own.

How about flying your trips..and enjoy your time off. Never heard anybody's last words being "I wish I would have worked more" But go chase that dollar. Then the next contract the senior guys will sell out the junior for some more $ and the spiral continues.

If you can't live on 100 grand a year when the poverty line is 27 thousand "family of 4" then you have bigger problems.

But go ahead strap on your kneepads and pick up that trip. Help the company out. I would expect nothing less from this combined bunch of suckups. Have fun at the company christmas party too. Be sure to remind everyone how awesome they are.
